Just north of Minneriya, Kaudulla National Park offers equally spectacular elephant gatherings (200-300 elephants) with a fraction of the visitors. From July-December, watch herds converge at the ancient Kaudulla Tank, creating mirror-like reflections at golden hour.

The park’s tank dates back to 3rd century BCE, part of Sri Lanka’s ancient hydraulic civilization that created these wildlife oases.
